Configuring wireless using MS Vista

If the student registers for the wireless directly on their laptop, it should find the mac address automatically.

If the student isn’t able to connect to the USF registration page, go to their network connectivity site and set up a connection to the USF network.

IF you have tried both of these steps and it still isn't working...

To find mac adapter addresses In Vista:

Go to
All Programs
Accessories
Command Prompt
In the command prompt box type: cmd
Then type: Ipconfig /all
and note the physical address.

Double-sided printing

Double-sided printing is not a supported function here in the library. The printer charges per page, not per piece of paper. The user will not "save" money this way, only paper. Also, we can not guarantee that the job will work out satisfactorily.

However, if there is a need to send a double-sided print job from one of the public computers, here are some directions to try.

Select Print
Select printer (e.g., Penguin)
Click on Properties
Duplex option appears on the menu. The default is "off."
Change the duplex option to "open to left."

Continue as you normally would; selecting pages to print, etc.

You may want to test the print job first by just doing the first 2 pages if it is a long document.

Off-campus copying and fax

Computer display turned sideways

If you happen to run into a display that has been turned sideways, there is an easy fix. Press CTRL & ALT & F12. This will bring up the properties, where you can uncheck the "Enable Rotation" box.

Footnotes in RefWorks

I had a student using Write-n-Cite last night who wanted to create footnotes instead of parenthetical notes. I couldn’t find the information on how to do it in Refworks help so I sent a message to their technical support. It can be done and here’s the link to show you how:

Saving a jpg on the horseshoe scanner

Once the image is scanned into Photoshop,
Go to the file menu and choose “save for web” (not “save” or “save as”)
You can then save the item as a .jpg or a .gif
When naming the job, be sure to manually add the .jpg or .gif extension
